Blog Maintenance – An Important Key to Blogging Success

July 1, 2014 by J9 Designs Filed Under: BLOG, Blog Advice, Blog Services

Need Help with Blog Maintenance??

You have been blogging for a few months and have your blog setup the way you wanted, when you first began by either yourself or outside help.

But now, you are noticing you would like to move some things around.

Website Help

Do you know how to do this?

Well, whether you are using your blog for monetization purposes or for more personal reasons, you still want your blog to reflect yourself and be an extension of who you are.

  • Maybe add or delete from your menu bar.
  • Or maybe you want to change up your sidebar by adding or deleting plugins or elements.
  • Or still maybe you would like to update your header, your background or more.

The key here for success is that when you blog, the look of your blog should not be static or remain the same forever.

You may not want to make large or big changes, but still, you should try to keep things fresh by updating certain elements on your blog at least every few months.

On my own blog, I try to update my header and larger elements at the very least once a year.  See my header has photos of my little girls and I like to use the professional Christmas photos we take annually for them.

I change the photos annually now with our family portrait photos

But I do take photos daily of the girls and could use a number of photos, but still I prefer my professional photos.

I know many change their backgrounds to suit the time or season of the year.

Do You Want to Make Money??

If you monetize, you will want to make sure your sidebar reflects the best monetization options.  Affiliates update banners sometimes weekly for new promotional offers, so to make the most out of your ad potential, you will want to update these text/html banners often to get the most bang for your buck, such as Amazon, who is releasing their new Fire Phone – take a look at the sample ad now to see a recent ad campaign that if you are an Amazon Affiliate you would want to possibly use…

You may need to add or delete plugins as per your needs or if a plugin is interfering with the overall appearance or even working ability of your blog, as was the case with this issue I recently had described here.

When Plugins Go Awry

You may want help in setting up new or key plugins, such as WordPress Yoast SEO.

Wordpress SEO Yoast

Some of these simple changes can seriously make or break it for your blog as far succeeding.

If you can do these basic or not so basic changes yourself, that is awesome.

But if you can’t, I would love to help you and wanted to put it out there that I offer blog maintenance for all bloggers and website owners just in case you weren’t aware or didn’t know this.

Great tips all learned by a lot of hand wringing, swearing, and punching a few walls. Would have loved to have read this a year ago. I need to remember to change up my affiliate links now and again. Putting that on my calendar to keep track of. Thanks!

I am overdue for an update, but I’m just not feeling motivated to do it. My header picture is almost two years old now, but we haven’t had a good family picture since then. 🙁 Hopefully we can get something taken at the beach this summer and then maybe I feel some motivation to update.

I totally know that feeling well. Take a look at other blogs you like and see what you may like about them, might be easier to go from there. And of you do need any help, you could always ask me 😉

I couldn’t agree more that maintenance should take place on your site regularly. Things online change from month to month, and even week to week, so its important to keep everything updated. Plus, a little refresher on the blog can do wonders!

Thanks so much for sharing at Creative Style!
