Who doesn’t want to make money?
How about making money during the holiday times?
I admit the holidays can be rough around here shopping for those perfect holiday gifts, paying bills and just keeping up with regular (fixed) finances.
If you blog and are looking to make money, you could take on sponsored posts.
However, I have an easier way for you to make money simply by opening up the door to Affiliate Marketing.
What is affiliate marketing?
According to Wikipedia, Affiliate Marketing is:
“A type of performance-based marketing in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought by the affiliate’s own marketing efforts.”
So, then what is an affiliate?
An affiliate, by definition, is to officially attach or connect (a group or individual) to an organization.
In layman’s terms you form a business connection with a company to make a small commission off selling their products or services.
If you read blogs, you will see, advertisements on sidebars, footers, headers and more for different companies. Blogs/Websites run these ads to generate income or make potential income/money from these ads.
I get asked often enough as a Virtual Assistant, if one can make money being an affiliate marketer and if so, which Affiliate Marketing companies are worth signing up with to make money.
The answer is yes you can totally make money being an affiliate marketer.
As a blogger in the last year alone, I have made a few thousand alone being an affiliate marketer.
But again, you are probably curious as to which companies I have been most successful with.
Guess what?
Do you want to know how to make money for holidays?
I am going to divulge here and now which have been the most profitable here for all to benefit from my experience.
Well, here we go…
The Top Affiliate Marketing Companies to Make Money:
1. Google Adsense –
Most have heard seen Google Adsense Ads and they are truly all over. These ads are pretty much much all over the internet and were most likely the first of its kind. This type of affiliate ads, you pretty much sign up for, hopefully get accepted and then can add the HTML code to your where ever your heart desires. You don’t have to sign up for separate company affiliations, but will just run current company ads that work with Google Adsense and ones they usually try their best to stream company ads that fit with your current articles (so they try their best to tailor the ads to your reading audience).
2. Amazon Affiliates –
Amazon Affiliates, also once you have signed up, allows you to add either their specific products, such as Kindle or Amazon Prime or you an even link to just about any Amazon product page and share on your blog, whether in your sidebar or even in specific posts, such as if you were to do a book review and want to link to the actual book you read to get others to read and make a small commission off the reader clicking through on your link.
3. Shareasale Affiliate Marketing-
Not going to fib here, but I love Shareasale and probably one of my favorite affiliates to work with, because not only do you sign up for specific high profile companies, such as Tiny Prints, but you can display sidebar ads, as well as receive extra bonuses for sharing pre-made blog posts to try and promote the companies latest sales and deals. Usually about $5 per article, but still $5 more then you had already and if some clicks though on the link in this article and purchases, then you make off the commission off the purchase, as well. Win-win in my book!
4. Linkshare Affiliate Marketing-
This affiliate marketing company is similar to Shareasale and also work with specific companies. I haven’t gotten the same types of bonus articles though, but have actually gotten sponsored product reviews, such as for LeapFrog with the LeapBand and LeapPad 3 and paid sponsored articles, such as with Walmart for their Back to School Campaign. So, the products alone paid for itself, as well as the meat pay and exposure from Walmart didn’t hurt for me either.
5. CJ Affiliate Marketing-
Yet, another affiliate company similar to both Shareasale and Linkshare. I haven’t made as much from this to be honest with, but signed up later and still hopeful. So, I felt I would include here as another option for those looking to branch out with affiliate marketing, because they have companies such as GLOSSYBOX.
6. Ebay Affiliate Marketing (also known as Pepper Jam Network) –
Also, similar to the last three, but again only singed up in the last 6 months and made a small amount so far, but love that
7. W4 Affiliate Marketing-
A quick mention here, as I have only used since being asked to do a sponsored post for Golden Tote, which was a pretty large sponsored campaign complete with me receiving and getting to keep about $300 worth of free clothing to review for myself. So, I am still working the kinks out with them.
8. BlogHer Ads –
The last is not always the easiest to be accepted in and know a few who have gotten rejected numerous times before being accepted. But must admit I got very lucky to be accepted back only a few months into blogging and have made the most amount of money from their ads and also their social sharing campaigns (which I got accepted after I ran their ad network on my site). So, totally felt this was worth sharing with all those who may be on the fence and not sure if BlogHer is worth signing up for or fighting to get a place with them.
To this end, all of these collectively have helped me to put together a huge and massive Holiday Gift Guide for all my blog readers complete with offers and deals, which you can view here.
So, affiliate marketing is the way to go for money making and so much more!

Totally my pleasure, Christy and yes I have had a wonderful experience with BlogHer. I have been working with them for almost 2 years now and they are truly an amazing company to work for.

Hi Janine,
I still never had much luck with AdSense…I probably just don’t get enough traffic. But I’ve had great results from Amazon, especially with product review posts. Those have been my bread and butter for the past year.
I have seen a lot of other bloggers using BlogHer, so I guess I will have to give them a try…
Just kidding =P
Maybe when they come out with “BlogHim” haha

Chris, I know do agree with Adsense as for me with BlogHer ads getting top billing my Adsense doesn’t make as much. When it just simply Adsense running I did do better with them. But with BlogHer running that has indeed more then picked up the slack and would love to see a BlogHim for you and other male bloggers, too for this reason. As for Amazon , I also agree about product capsules and also had some success with these, too. Thanks for weighing in and seriously love learning a bit more from other bloggers like you, too 😉

Janine,
I have done several of these affiliates, but I need to try several more of them this coming year. People are normally surprised when I tell them that Google AdSense far pays better for me than BlogHer. I am definitely sharing this everywhere and saving it for me to digest later. I truly needed this post and appreciate all the GREAT information.
Blessings,
Diane Roark

Aww, so happy Diane I could give you some more food food for thought on this. I will admit I do make more money as of now with BlogHer, but that wasn’t the case when I first started with BlogHer. So, I would say have faith in BlogHer and don’t give up on them just yet.
Robin (Masshole Mommy) says
I need to look into this more next year. I think I am missing out.
J9 Designs says
Robin, I think you would do great incorporating a bit of this on ypur site, as you already do a lot of events and have a wonderful following, too 😉
